How to Refresh Your Seasonal Home Décor for Spring

You may be feeling the last few breaths of winter in your part of the country, but soon the snow will give way to mild, sunny temps, green leaves will sprout on bare-limbed trees, and butterflies will flitter around budding flowers. I love spring and the welcome energy it brings after the dreary months of winter. As the seasons change, so too does my home vibe. After all, who wants to wake up to spring outside if it still feels like winter inside?

If you’re wondering how to refresh your home décor to reflect the changing seasons, rest assured that you don’t have to make any large purchases to see instant transformation. Small updates can have a meaningful impact and leave your home feeling current and stylish. Read on about some of my favorite ways to update my décor each season:

Swap out pillows.

Throw pillows are inexpensive ways to update the look of your living room to reflect the current season. For spring, look for pastels or florals, or try mixing up light-colored patterns such as stripes and checks with coordinating solids. A good rule of thumb when choosing throw pillows? Use one solid, one simple print, and one busy print. This can offer balance and help your selections to complement the rest of the room.

Change up throws.

A cozy cable-knit blanket may be perfect for snuggling up on the sofa as the snow falls, but as spring creeps in and warmer weather returns, it’s time to ditch the heavy knits and faux fur for something a little more seasonally appropriate. Look for lighter-weight options, such as cotton or chenille, in neutrals, light-colored stripes, or pastels with fringed ends—perfect for throwing over a chair or cuddling under on the couch but without the added bulk.

Find the right fragrance.

Ever walk into a store and instantly feel as though you are breathing in season just by the fragrance that surrounds you? Candles are the perfect way to capture this same feeling at home and update your living space with the seasons. Put away the cinnamon and piney scents of winter and opt for light-colored candles with fresh, clean scents that convey the spirit of spring, such as fresh linen, florals, or mild fruit/floral combinations.

Add fresh florals.

Nothing says spring like flowers, so use fresh stems to tie in lighter colors and soften the look of your space. Fresh tulips, hydrangeas, or peonies look especially beautiful at this time of year, and you can purchase them during your next trip to the grocery store. Display them in the center of a dining table, or add some warmth to your home by positioning them on your coffee table or console. Simple faux-flower arrangements, such as eucalyptus branches or dogwood stems, can also add a touch of spring to your fireplace mantel or nightstand.

Concentrate on color.

Unlike the dark, seasonal hues of winter, spring is punctuated by color. Add touches of the season to your home by focusing on crisp whites with pops of yellows, pinks, blues, or greens. Swap a heavy, dark-colored comforter for a clean white duvet with pastel throw pillows. Switch out plaid table runners to lighter fabrics with floral designs. Look for home accents that will allow you to embrace the color of the season, such as new wall art or a living room rug. Regardless of whether you prefer pastels or brights, spring is the perfect time to let go of winter’s shadows and showcase color throughout your home.

I’m excited to bid adieu to winter and welcome the lighter, brighter months, both inside and outside my home. What’s your favorite way to update your home for the seasons? Please share your ideas in the comments.
